Our Story
The Perfect Storm: A Vision Collision
Jesus is clear about the future of His church and His people. He states with hopeful promise, “I will build my church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.” When he glances through future generations, there is only one end in sight—the transformation of a world and a people for His own glory and possession regardless of the efforts of evil to destroy all that is good. Jesus will build His church and no one can do anything stop Him.
Jesus is also clear in the gospels that He intend to build His church with people whom He calls into service. At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus calls out to some fisherman to follow Him, to literally drop all that they have and value to embark on a journey of knowing and serving Him. And, after Jesus’ death and resurrection, He instills a deeper sense of call within them despite their failures, denials, and scattering. He assures them of His unending love in the words, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.” He sends them in similar fashion, “As the Father has sent me, so have I sent you.” Jesus loves people that fail, struggle, and scatter. Jesus sends those He loves on a mission. His mission is what we call the “Great Commission” which is quoted as, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. Surely, I will be with you always to the end of the age.”
Jesus has a vision of a victorious church being built as trusting and obedient men and women live in His unending love and go with His unending love. This vision of Jesus has spread to a family, a local congregation, and a denomination to see Jesus build His church through the planting of a new church in Central New York.Michael and Doreen Mazzye have sensed a call to church planting for almost four years. As Michael completed the Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a deepened passion for evangelism lured him to pursue the idea of church planting. However, the Mazzyes accepted a position to be the Solo Pastor at First Baptist Church in Wolcott, New York. During this time, Jesus continued to pour within the family’s heart a vision for a new church that would reach their peers, reject any barriers to belief in Christ, and transform the lives of people who encounter the truth and love of Jesus Christ. The passion grew over a period of time and in the fall of 2006, it seemed as if all the pieces were falling into place.
